Marc Witkes Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship fund was a passion of its founder, Marc Witkes. As President of the Durango Motorless Transit (DMT) running club, Marc’s vision was to see local athletes stay in the four corners area to pursue their dream of competing in cross-country at the collegiate level at Fort Lewis College. Marc was the driving force behind this scholarship becoming a reality.
Formerly known as the DMT/FLC Scholarship, it was renamed in memory of Marc Witkes who unexpectedly collapsed in the last mile of the 2006 Tucson Marathon. Marc had a profound impact upon the people he came in contact with, always encouraging them to chase after their dreams with all they have. This scholarship fund will continue to assist people whose dream it is to compete at the collegiate level in a sport that has truly become a part of who they are, and who they wish to become.
