Durango Motorless Transit is
the region's largest running club. Our members live throughout
the Four Corners (Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah). DMT
is a non-profit organization, affiliated with the Road Runner's
Club of America (RRCA). We are organized to promote running for
all ages and abilities, conduct races, group running activities
and the health of the community through exercise.
The 31st Annual Narrow Gauge
Run begins in historic Durango and follows the scenic River Trail
north before ascending North College and Rim Drives to the Fort
Lewis College campus. Spectacular views await the weary before
the final screaming descent to the finish at Park Elementary School.
The proceeds of the race will
benefit the Marc Witkes Memorial Fort Lewis College Scholarship

Registration will begin at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 25, 2008
at Park Elementary School. There will be no registrations after
7:30
as buses will be departing for the start of the 5k. There is
no guarantee of a t-shirt for a late registrant.

Awards will be given for each race with the
5k awards starting as soon as the results are in. The 10 mile awards
will follow the finish
of the 10 mile race. 1st place male and female for 5k and
10 mile races will receive a certificate for a free pair of running
shoes,
donated by Your Running Store and Brown's Sports Shoe. 1st, 2nd,
and 3rd place in four age divisions (29 and under, 30-39, 40-49,
and 50+) will receive awards as well for both races. . course:
The 10 mile race starts at Park Elementary
School between 4th and 5th Streets. The 10 mile race beings at 8
a.m. sharp. The course goes down 5th Street to Main Street. Runners
will turn right and go north to 8th Street, then left and proceed
1/2 block and turn right. The course will continue to 9th street
and runners will turn left going west across Camino del Rio to
the River Trail access. This portion will be led by a Durango patrol
car. Once on the River Trail, the 10 mile course will follow the
trail north until runners reach 32nd streeet. At that point, they
will turn right and go east to CR 250 and then turn right. The
runners will proceed up a short distance to Florida Road, cross
Florida Road and turn right.They must then turn left on Richard
Drive and follow the road up North College Drive hill. Once they
have summited, the runners will take the first right (Rim Drive)
and follow the road around the rim. At the traffic light, they
will take a left and go north to Fort Lewis Drive, a turn right
and down (south) Goeglein Drive will be the descent to the finish.
Runners will follow Goeglein down to E. 6th Avenue and then turn
left to the finish line.
The 5k race starts on the college campus at
8:15 a.m. The course is the last 3.1 miles of the 10 mile course.
Runners will be bused to the start with the first bus leaving Park
Elementary School at 7:30 a.m. with another one will depart as
soon as the first bus returns. Once the last bus leaves, there
are no others. view

There will be four water stops on the course
with one of them also on the 5k route. Each water stop will have
water and Gatorade. These stops are located on the course map.
Course marshalls will be at critical intersections.
Be aware of any traffic as none of these roads are closed. Run
on the right side of the road, unless directed. Signs and chalk
marks will identify the route. Sorry, no dogs or strollers allowed.
The Ironhorse
Bicycle Race on Saturday, the
Narrow Gauge Races on Sunday and a 1500 m swim on Monday can be
combined for athletes to
compete in a weekend triathlon. More information to come soon.
