Silverton’s Snowscape carnival is in full swing with the 2nd Annual Hard Core Mountain Challenge.  This is an uphill downhill race that covers 3,800’ vertical from 10,400’ to 12,300’ and back down.  The first to reach the bottom using snowshoes, skis, or a snowboard is the winner.  Last year’s event was a huge success with Sara Ballatyne, pro mountain biker and eco-challenge racer finishing in under an hour.  One competitor said after winning a Black Diamond Avalung, “That’s what I need another lung!”
